Goodwin Sports Centre

The Brief

Goodwin Sports Centre is the University of Sheffield’s primary sports facility, providing swimming and sports facilities to students and the general public. It is the University’s aspiration to improve the existing gym and provide a facility that aligns with modern commercial gyms.

The Design

The existing internal environment suffers from low ceilings, overheating and noise disturbance form an existing external roof top plant. The original building dates back to the 1960’s and many of the original features that have been retained in the building now require refurbishment. These elements include the original timber curtain walling along with the swimming pool roof, the pool ceiling/lighting and the pool itself.

The Outcome

The aim is to reduce running and maintenance cost to the sports centre, enhance the user experience and bring the facility up to a modern standard that aligns with other university facilities across the country.
