New Portland Entrance, Leeds Beckett University

Leeds

Back to Education Sector

The Portland entrance created a new gateway to the City Campus and enhanced the cohesion of four key locations.

The Brief

As a large and important institution within the City of Leeds, the building complex previously had a very poor quality entrance and the Portland entrance area was too small to comfortably accommodate the numbers of students using the facility and avoid overcrowding. A much needed new entrance and circulation space was required.

The Design

The new structure has extended the entrance onto Portland Way, heightening the university’s street presence, whilst the exterior has been designed to blend in with the Portland building’s iconic façade.

The Outcome

Connecting the four buildings has brought everything under one roof for the academic schools based in these locations, creating a greater sense of community and place for our staff and students alike.
