Milton Keynes Waste Recovery Park

Milton Keynes

Back to Energy & Waste Sector

Working with AmeyCespa and Milton Keynes Council, we have designed a state-of-the-art AT facility to treat ‘black sack’ waste to cut the amount of rubbish sent to landfill to around 3%. Race Cottam provided all architectural services including Lead Designer and Clash Detection role where all building elements were co-ordinated with all process equipment models.

The Brief

Race Cottam were appointed by Volker Fitzpatrick and Amey Cespa to design the multi process AT facility in response to Milton Keynes council FPI tender.

The Design

The building employs three processes:

• Mechanical treatment technology by Stadler to extract recyclable materials from residual waste;

• An anaerobic digester operated by Celtic Bioenergy which will treat any food or organic waste to create renewable energy and a compost-like output for use on brownfield sites; and,

• An Energos advanced thermal treatment facility which will turn any remaining, unrecyclable waste into a gas, which is combusted to generate high temperature

The Outcome

Working with AmeyCespa and Milton Keynes Council, we have designed a state-of-the-art AT facility to treat ‘black sack’ waste to cut the amount of rubbish sent to landfill to around 3%.
