Allerton Waste Recovery Park

The Brief

The brief for the building was to create a unique facility for the UK combining three state-of the–art technologies on one site; mechanical treatment, anaerobic digestion and Energy from Waste in order to reduce black bin waste in the county by at least 90%. As the site was sensitive we were enlisted to ensure the building’s design provided minimal impact on its surroundings. Part of the brief was to also design a dedicated on-site Education and Visitor’s Centre.

The Design

With our experience in the energy from waste sector, we were able to provide AmeyCespa with architectural proposals to support their successful bid.

Careful consideration to the site layout was undertaken to ensure safe and efficient operations around the site. Due to the site’s proximity to Allerton Park (a registered park and garden) we were involved with extensive dialogue throughout the design process with English Heritage to ensure the design met their approval and the building responded sensitively to its context.

The Outcome

As RCA has a high level understanding of the high civil and structural engineering and process technologies we were able to rationalise the design during the bidding process to aid in the production of a competitive and ultimately successful bid.

By being involved in the early stages of design we were able to develop proposals to meet with planning requirements which ensured a quicker planning approval time.
