Belper Health Centre

Belper, Derbyshire

Back to Health Sector

Delivery of a two-storey outpatient health centre on the site of Babington Hospital in Belper Town Centre.

The Brief

The new health centre will improve the quality of the environment for patients and staff whilst enabling the rationalisation of the estate for the Trust. It will provide clinical spaces (designed for adaptability for a variety of clinical functions), treatment suite, physio gym, day centre, and EMAS (East Midlands Ambulance Service) facilities alongside clinical staff and office space.

The Design

The Derbyshire Community Health Services NHS Foundation Trust site lies within the Belper conservation area, adjacent to a listed building and within the Derwent Valley Mills UNESCO World Heritage Site. Through design development there has been collaboration with the Local Planning Authority, Historic England and the Conservation team. The site also lies within Flood Zone 3, and we have liaised with the Environmental Agency to establish flood resilience in the building design and site amendments such as strategic land remodelling.

The Outcome

Works began on site in 2025, and once the building is open, it will provide a new state-of-the-art base from which to deliver all clinical and outpatient care currently delivered in Babington Hospital.
