Excited to be part of The Archer Projects’ redevelopment

We have recently been appointed to undertake RIBA Stage 4 for our Sheffield neighbours.

For over 30 years, the charity has been a lifeline for people experiencing homelessness in Sheffield, offering support, warmth, food, healthcare, and hope. However, its current facilities are no longer fit for purpose. The spaces are tired, too small and insufficient to support the growing and evolving needs of those who rely on them.

Our relationship with The Archer Project spans more than a decade, from charity walks and sleep-outs, to serving breakfasts and offering design advice for quick improvements.

In recent years, we’ve worked closely with Tim Renshaw BEM and the team to develop concept proposals for the ‘hub’, a more radical reconfiguration, refurbishment and expansion of its facilities behind Sheffield Cathedral. Seeing this project now progress for our neighbours feels deeply personal and incredibly exciting.

This project is about more than reconfiguring rooms and painting walls. It’s about creating a warming welcome to all; creating calm where there was congestion, clarity where there was confusion and dignity where space once felt tired and constrained.

The redesigned facility will separate welcoming drop-in support from structured programmes and activities, improving flow and reducing conflict. A previously unused hall damaged by fire back in 2020 will be brought back to life. A landscaped courtyard will provide light, safety and therapeutic value, and a calm waiting space off the street. A warm and calming palette of materials and colours will transform the environment into one that actively supports wellbeing and reflects the life-changing work taking place inside.

This is a project that truly matters to the charity, to the city, to us and more importantly to the people who walk through its doors seeking support.

We are incredibly proud to play a part in making space that matters and making space for real change.
