Protos Energy From Waste Facility
Having had previous involvement with the Ince Park RDF facility and bottom ash processing plant, Race Cottam have been appointed to revisit the site at Protos and develop a new design for a new Energy from Waste facility that will treat 350 000 tpa and generate 35Mw electrical output.
The Brief
As Race Cottam were familiar with the site, planning and technology requirements, an effective architectural design has been quickly developed that is supported by all the key stakeholders. As the previous consent was granted in 2009 the new scheme considers the most up to date thinking for EfW facilities, and a contemporary architectural treatment.
The Design
Race Cottam prepared information for the full planning application submitted in June 2016.
The Outcome
The projects form part of a wider Protos Resources Recovery Park being developed by Peel Environmental and Covanta Energy and will utilise a multi modal transport strategy of road, rail and a new ship berth on the Manchester Ship Canal.
