Planning Permission Granted for Two New Schools in Walsall Town Centre

Unanimous planning consent has been granted at committee for two new school buildings in Walsall town centre.

Design development of The Ladder school; an alternative provision free school for 11 to 16 year olds, focused on the layout of the buildings and was informed by the social and behavioural needs of the students.  Robust fabric performance and complex security provisions were achieved within the Department for Education PSB framework.

For Walsall studio school; a performing arts focused secondary school, the designs for the addition of a new building to provide specialist teaching spaces were developed.  The refurbishment of the existing Goldmine Centre will also go ahead.

The town centre brownfield site, previously a local mill which burned down in 2007, posed challenging exisiting levels and tight contraints for the two new education facilities.

Project Architect, Stuart Taylor said "We are very proud to have received planning approval for this community project in the heart of Walsall".

Working with Interserve Construction, the £8m project will start on site early in 2021.
