Gamma Knife BAM Construction, for Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

The National Centre for Stereotactic Radiosurgery at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital in Sheffield offers patients a less invasive alternative to brain surgery by using an array of intersecting beams of gamma radiation.

In designing a new unit to expand the service offered, meeting the complex technical requirements, including radiation shielding, and the security aspects of the project were paramount.  With limited natural daylight in the lower ground floor site, the team took great care in designing the patient areas to be as light and airy as possible by using a layout tailored to the specific needs of the patient group and an uplifting colour scheme to improve the patient experience.
