Maundown Water Treatment Works, Exmoor Wessex Water

Our redevelopment of an existing treatment plant for Wessex Water is located on a highly sensitive site at the edge of Exmoor National Park.  It is one of the largest such schemes in the UK and delivers drinking water to 250,000 homes in the South of England.

The design incorporates a raft of environmental features including one of the largest ‘green roofs’ in Europe. Solar water heating panels and a hydro-electric turbine generate electricity from water received from nearby reservoirs. A woodchip burning boiler will also be incorporated to generate heating for the new treatment works. These features will save more than 70,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide per year.
