UTC Leeds Officially Opens 24 Oct 2016

Friday 21st October saw the official opening of UTC Leeds by Councillor Judith Blake, Leader of Leeds City Council, and Lord Baker - co-founder of the Baker Dearing Education Trust, which was set up to develop University Technical Colleges. The opening ceremony was attended by the UTC Trust members, local sponsors, and those involved with the project, including contractors BAM, and Pauline Lake, representing Race Cottam Associates. Pauline was involved with the UTC from the very outset with the feasibility study, establishing the viability of creating 5,500sqm teaching accommodation within the shell of the Braime factory. There was much praise for the building and the facilities during the opening from both students, staff and visitors alike. All agreed that the building creates the ideal environment for students to learn about engineering within a ‘work-ready’ environment.
