Portland Entrance Opens 16 Dec 2016

This month saw the opening of the new Race Cottam designed main entrance to the Portland Building at Leeds Beckett University's City Campus.

Designed as the first phase of our City Campus Masterplan, the new entrance forms the principle entrance to the Portland and Calverley buildings from the Rose Bowl.  The impressive structure was designed to unify the exterior of the campus and creates a strategic link between three existing buildings set accross 6 different levels.  Designed to enhance the University's street presence,  the scheme is tied into our previous iconography project which unifies the campus exterior through the strategic use of signage and lighting.

Delivered by BAM Construction, construction was designed to work around key academic periods and maintain access to all staff and student areas throughout.  The completed entrance building provides social and informal learning space, as well as providing a connection to more formal learning spaces and mutiple food and beverage outlets.

David Hemming, Head of Estates, said; "The opening of the Portland Entrance signifies the University's commitment  to develop a number of spaces accross our estate.  We are delighted to be able to provide such an impressive environment for our students and staff to enjoy as well as providing a platform to showcase all their great work."
